Streamers always look for more games with replayability and tons of fun, so Suika became a popular option among players. Even though this indie game seems simple, it can be challenging to perform well and get on the leaderboard. Because of that, you’ll want to know how the game works.
However, it’s not clear where you can play the game, how you get it, and how the game even works. Luckily, you can use the information available to understand the game, its appeal, and even how to get on the leaderboard. That way, you can make the most of this purchase and enjoy hours of fun.
What Is Suika?
Suika is a game that has you drop fruit from up high into a square below. You want to combine fruits of the same type together to make them grow into larger fruit. For example, two cherries combine into a strawberry, and two strawberries make a grape.
When you play the game, you’ll have a circle of evolution in the bottom right corner, showing which fruits combine. The largest one is a watermelon, which offers the most points.
Where Can I Play Suika?
You can play Suika in two ways: either going online and playing a free version or playing it on the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch version can be bought in various eShops, including the North American, United Kingdom, and Japan stores. It’s rather cheap and only takes up 500 megabytes of space.
For those curious, Suika is available in English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
What Are The Rules For Suika?
Suika has straightforward rules. On top of combining fruit, you can’t have them spill out of the top. If the square fills up and any of them are sitting on top, the fruit will frown, and you’ll lose, getting whatever score you ended with.
To add to this, if the fruit bounce off each other and end up out of the square, you also lose. The game has you drop them in a line, allowing you to position them accordingly. However, the game uses its own physics engine. If you land it on the ground, it won’t move, but otherwise, the others will push it.
With that in mind, you have 11 fruit types to create the final watermelon, so keep that in mind as you play. You can see how well you score compared to others online by looking at the leaderboards. They include daily, monthly, and overall rankings, so you know what to aim for.
Suika Beginner Tips
Now that you have a feel for what the game offers, you should review some tips to help you perform well and eventually get a watermelon.
Start By Lining Up The Fruit
As a general rule, you want to line the fruit in a row from lowest to highest value. The highest one you get is an orange, so you’ll want to put it all the way to the right. You should then place the cherries to the left, and as you get more of them, you can organize them accordingly.
As you do, you can place the fruit where they build up on each other. You can cause them to roll toward each other if you land the fruit to the left of the one you want to move. Doing so takes advantage of the built-in physics the game uses, so you can rest easy knowing you have some control.
Following this approach will help you remain organized early on and avoid building up your square too high. The higher it gets, the more likely you’ll lose, so building that foundation early will help you get to the farther fruits with less difficulty.
However, you should be careful if you take this approach since the larger the fruit, the more they’ll push each other. As you get farther into the game, you could have unexpected pushes that lead to your fruit getting knocked out of order, at which point you’ll need to change your strategy.
Use The Larger Fruit To Your Advantage
The larger the fruits get, the easier it’ll be for you to split the fruit types. For instance, if you have an apple, you want to have an orange next to it. That way, when you combine two oranges, they’ll combine to make an apple, then combine with the apple they’re touching.
However, if you put smaller fruit next to the orange in this situation, you could create a barricade preventing your larger fruit from reaching each other.
If you want to keep it simple, try to keep fruit together that’ll combine within a step, allowing you to create chain reactions. For instance, if you have a cherry, strawberry, and grape touching each other, you only need to drop a cherry on them to now have the next fruit level.
Don’t be afraid to adapt to the situation since sometimes the game simply won’t give you the fruit you want. You can look at the Next section in the top-right corner to plan around it and know where you should place your fruit.
Keep The Largest Fruit In One Of The Bottom Corners
While you can’t guarantee this, you should do your best to keep the largest fruit in the bottom corner. Doing so will help you avoid building your pile higher than it should be. For instance, if you start to move the largest one to the middle, you’ll need to use both sides to avoid building up your pile.
Doing so will eventually cause the fruit to fall below the largest one since they’re all circles. This will naturally push the largest fruit upward, causing it to get closer to the top and making it more challenging to build up your fruit. The fruit below the largest fruit will become inaccessible, giving you less room to work with.
However, if you have it in one corner, you can keep all of them on the other side of the larger one and maintain consistency. It also gives you a clear goal of where to put your fruit, trying to maintain that order of smallest to largest.
Be Patient With The Fruit
You should remain patient with the fruit whenever you place them. Since they’re round, they’ll roll around for a while, so they could slip out of place and cause you to put your current fruit in the wrong position if you drop it early, leading to a loss.
On the other hand, you may drop fruit and notice that it didn’t fall exactly where you wanted it to. However, if you give it time to settle and adjust by sliding around the others, some of them may connect and even cause a chain of changes, allowing you to gain more space.
It never hurts to wait, as you don’t lose points from doing so. As a general rule, you should wait until all movement stops on the screen, so you’ll know the exact positions. On top of that, it gives you more time to think of your current move and even plan the next one to maximize your points.
