Using Foam in Foamstars
Much of Foamstars’ gameplay loop relies on the clever use of foam to put yourself at an advantage. All skills and your blaster will spray foam on the ground and will form a pile if you continue to foam a specific area. Higher positions on the map usually require you to build a small pile of foam first, so you can jump and reach those areas.
You’ll cover the map naturally when you fire your blaster; the area surrounding your character and the end of your target reticle will gradually fill the ground. The more foam you have on the ground, the faster you can zip around on your board, and the slower your enemies will be if they have to traverse your team’s phone.
How To Rescue Allies and Chill Enemies
As you take damage, your health bar will appear next to your chosen character. If it empties, you’ll be foamed and vulnerable to being ‘chilled’ until you respawn. You can only be chilled if your opponent crashes into you with their foamboard; during that time, your teammates will be able to save you if they can do the same first. You’ll know if someone is vulnerable to being chilled if they appear as a giant foamy bubble- it’s always a good idea to hop on your foamboard and ride into them because you’ll either chill your opponent or save your teammate.
Bath Vegas Features in Foamstars
When you aren’t in-game, you’ll find yourself in Bath Vegas, a hub world where you can invite your friends, customize your character, and even decorate the upper floor with unlockable items. While you can visit each area on foot to access them, pressing the touchpad will let you use any of Bath Vegas’ amenities without needing to physically move there. This is especially helpful if you intend to play a match, as otherwise, you’ll have to walk to the other end of Bath Vegas to reach the helicopter that will let you queue into a game.
Foamstars Tips And Tricks
Always Use Your Skills…
Your blaster is a good tool for both foaming up the map and enemies, but clever and repeated skill use is one of the biggest factors that will decide if you win or lose. These are unique to each character and have relatively short cooldowns, so sometimes it is better to use them as often as you can to keep the foam pressure going, instead of trying to save them for the best moment. And don’t forget, you can always review what each skill does by pressing the touchpad, even during a match!
…But Use Your Ultimate Sparingly
Alternatively, your character’s ultimate ability, called a Superstar skill or SSS, recharges much more slowly- These powerful abilities will usually only be available once or twice per match. While you can use your L1 and R1 skills as often as you want, consider using your SSS only for larger plays; quickly foaming up a group of clustered enemies or even foaming up a large area will have a much better impact than trying to guarantee a chill on a single enemy.
Always Be Foaming
Even if you’re struggling to chill any enemies, you can still make a very important contribution just by foaming up as much of the map as possible. The more of your team’s foam is on the map, the faster you and your teammate can zoom around on your foamboards and the slower your enemies will be as they try to foam the map up themselves. Remember the sides of the map are just as important to foam up as the popular areas, as you can use the foamed-up flanks as sneaky highways to get behind the other team!
Get the High Ground
One of the first things you’ll notice is that you fire your foam in an arc, rather than in a straight line. While you’ll always have a visible targeting line to help place your shots, it’s much more effective to climb above your enemies, as you’ll have a better angle for your shots, and your enemies will struggle to aim their arc upwards to return the favor.
Play To Your Character’s Strengths
As you select a character, you’ll notice they each have styles of play depending on their skill set. Agito for example is capable of flanking and blowing other foamstars away with powerful abilities, but the unlockable Baristador excels at foaming up the area for his teammates. Your preferred character will always have a playstyle that works best, and playing to that strength is never a bad idea.
Jump Around
You won’t always have complete foam highways to zoom around the map on. Your enemies will constantly be doing the same thing, so the field will be constantly changing back and forth between foam colors. If you’re on your foamboard, the distance and height on your jump will let you hop over sections of enemy foam and keep the speed going. This will keep you out of the enemy team’s foam and can save you from getting chilled!
